Oh boy. Yeni is one of my favorite food spots in Istanbul. The chef Civan Er’s food is just delicious. It’s a modernised Turkish experience, with fine-dining dishes but in a less formal environment. In a dimly lit atmosphere, with bright turquoise tiling, simple and elegant tables carry seasonal food.
What to order: The menu consists of Turkish food improved upon through technique. Their signature mantı is a prime example. The dough is melt-in-your-mouth perfection, and the sour yogurt sauce and infused oils take it to another level. I’d opt for the aubergine-filled ones here. You have missed out on this place if you don’t try the mantı.
My other personal favorites that I have encountered so far are the hummus with mint and chickpeas, the olive oil braised red beets, the carrot tarator (tartare) and the çiğ köfte (spicy meat tartare). The complimentary smoked butter and crispy sourdough bread is a great beginning to what will be a pricey but delicious experience.
What to know: No outdoor seating here. Something I love is that the ornamental tiles have a custom-made aubergine design. Also, Yeni has a branch in Soho, London under the same name.
